ACADEMIC
CERTIFICATE
IN STATISTICS
(established Summer 2005)
CERTIFICATE
IN
STATISTICS
The certificate in statistics is developed for graduate students
majoring in disciplines other than statistics who wish to show a competency
in statistics. Students are not required to be actively
pursuing a graduate degree in order to participate in the
certificate program, but must satisfy graduate admission
requirements at the University of Idaho. This certificate program is
available in either of, or a combination of two venues: on-campus
study or via Engineering Outreach (EO) - the distance education arm
of the University of Idaho.
The certificate program is designed to give the student a
background in the statistical methods that are applicable to their
major field of study. When planning coursework toward the
certificate, students should see a certificate advisor in the
Department of Statistics to ensure that the courses chosen will meet
the student's professional objectives. The certificate is
awarded when the student has completed 5 courses (3 or more at the
University of Idaho) as follows with a grade of C or better in
each:
- STAT 401 Statistical Analysis
- A course in Regression (either STAT 525 [taken prior to
Fall 2006], STAT 550 [formerly 510], or STAT
433) and/or Design of Experiments (STAT 507)
- Two or three courses* from the following list:
STAT 422 Sample Survey Methods
STAT 428 Geostatistics
STAT 446 Six Sigma Innovation
STAT 451 Probability Theory
STAT 452 Mathematical Statistics
STAT 456 Quality Management
STAT 511 Design for Six Sigma & Lean Management
STAT 514 Nonparametrics
STAT 520 Statistical Analysis of
Qualitative Data
STAT 521 Multivariate Analysis
STAT 539 Time Series
STAT 555 Statistical Ecology
STAT 565 [formerly 540] Computer Intensive Methods
STAT 571 Reliability Theory
Students interested in employment in statistics per se should
consider studying for an M.S. degree in Statistics.
* If both a regression course (either STAT 525 [taken prior to
Fall 2006], STAT 550 [formerly 510], or STAT
433) and the design of experiments course (STAT 507) are taken, then
only two more courses must be taken from the list. If the design of
experiments course is taken without a regression course, then three
more courses must be chosen from the list.
