The Gateway to Mathematics Project is developing and delivering web-based university level mathematics and mathematics education courses to dual enrollment high school students, adult learners in technical workplaces, and K-12 mathematics teachers.

The Mathematics Department is developing, delivering, and evaluating two state-of-the-art, web-based mathematics courses focused on the professional development needs of Idaho’s middle school mathematics teachers.  The courses are

   The relationship between historical conceptions and

student mathematical conceptions

What are the key obstacles that arise in the acquisition of mathematical knowledge that are epistemological in nature, and thus can be expected to appear at both the individual and societal levels?

What is the relationship between the internal cognitive rules that govern the construction of (locally) consistent sets of conceptions and our external socio-mathematical rules that govern the construction of consistent mathematics?
