Independent Status Achieved -

Junior
Investigator - a Junior Investigator is (1) an individual who
does not have or has not previously had an external, peer-reviewed
Research Project Grant (RPG) or Program Project Grant (PPG) from either
a Federal or non-Federal source that names that investigator as the PI
or (2) an established investigator who is making a significant change to

Minority-serving
Institution - An institution with an enrollment of more than
50% minority racial/ethnic students (African Americans, Hispanics,
American Indians, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders).

Peer-review group
- A group of people with expertise who examine and appraise a document
or proposal. Peer-review groups include editorial and research
application review boards.
Research
- An activity that is a) a systematic, intensive
study directed toward greater knowledge or understanding of the subject
studies, b) a systematic study directed specifically toward applying new
knowledge to meet a recognized need, or c) a systematic
application of knowledge toward the production of material, devices and
systems or methods to meet specific requirements.
