Redox Reactions and Processes - II
pe-pH (Eh-pH) diagrams

Overview
Eh-pH (pe-pH) diagrams are a type of phase diagram. These diagrams depict the relationships among minerals and aqueous species as a function of pH and redox conditions. This week will be entirely devoted to learning how to construct and interpret these diagrams. The principles involved are similar to those involved in the calculation of activity-activity diagrams which we learned how to construct in Week 6. In the lecture material, construction of four different pe-pH diagrams is illustrated, and a fifth example is given in the solutions to the problems in Kehew. After careful study of these five examples, you should be able to draw almost any pe-pH diagram.
