In-class tests
  There will be five in-class exams during the course of the semester. These exams will consist primarily of problem-solving, but there will be some short-answer and essay questions in some cases. You will also be required to know the definitions of important terms discussed in class. Your best preparation for the exams is independent completion of the homework assignments.
Examination #1 (September 11)
   This exam will cover all material from Topic 1 and Problem Set 1.

Exam Statistics: Mean = 76.7; Std. Dev. = 14.2; Median = 80; Low = 46; High = 95.

Examination #2 (October 9)

     This exam will cover all material from Topic 2 and the crystal chemistry part of Topic 3, including Problem Sets 2, 3 and 4.

Exam Statistics: Mean = 67.3; Std. Dev. = 17.7; Median = 68.3; Low = 33.5; High = 93.

Examination #3 (October 23)
   This exam will re-examine acid-base and equilibrium calculations from Topic 2 and will cover solubility reactions from Topic 3 (Problem Set 5).

Exam Statistics: Mean = 65.0; Std. Dev. = 28.8; Median = 65; Low = 17; High = 108.

Examination #4 (November 13)
       This exam will cover the material in Topic 3 starting with redox reactions through to the solid products of weathering (clay structure etc.). The relevant problem sets are numbers 6 and 7.

Exam Statistics: Mean = 78.2; Std. Dev. = 13.9; Median = 83; Low = 43; High = 95.

Examination #5 (December 4)
       This exam will cover the material on Continental Waters from Topic 3 and Geochronology through to and including the Re-Os system. The relevant problem set is PS8.
Final Exam (December 17; 12:30-2:30 PM)
