Grades will be based on only
the tests.
There will be four tests and
a comprehensive final exam. The tests
are worth 100 points each and the
final exam will be scaled to be worth 200 points.
Notice
that for summer students, the pace is very fast. You have some leeway, but
I will not allow you to take more than one test in any given week. This
means that you will need to take the first test by Friday of the second
week, the second test by Friday of the third week, etc. I will allow you a
little leeway, but I will not grade more than one test in a week, so keep that
in mind and set yourself a schedule that will allow you to progress at a good
pace.
For Fall
and Spring students, the exams should be taken at least one every three or
four weeks in order to keep on schedule. I
will allow you a
little leeway, but I will not grade more than one test in a week, so keep that
in mind and set yourself a schedule that will allow you to progress at a good
pace.
Please
note that I will grade only the original exam not a faxed copy!
Make certain that your
proctor knows he/she must mail your completed exam to the office.
There will be a total of 600
points. Grades
will be assigned according to the typical
90-80-70-60% scale.
I strongly believe that the best way to learn math is to do
math. This is why there is so much suggested homework.
It is actually easier to answer math questions via email
than one might think. I have had a lot of practice with my own students
and also with correspondence study students. Just use a symbol that seems
appropriate, like D(x^2) = 2x or I(2x) = x^2+C. I want to help make
this experience a successful one for you.
