Chemistry 101

Homework assignments consist of four exercises that will be handed out before each hour exam.  Each HW is worth 25 points.  They are meant to be similar to the types of problems you will see on the midterm exams and the HW will serve as a pre-test to see if you are ready for the actual test.  As of right now, I do not know if they will be handouts, forms you download from here, or actual online work.

Here is the Answer Key for HW 4.

Here is Homework 4.  In class, we discussed the merits of a comprehensive Homework 4 vs. a Homework 4 over Chapters 11 and 12 only.  I decided to go with the Homework 4 with problems taken ONLY FROM CHAPTERS 11 AND 12.  I will put up the old exams and I can also add more problems if you wish, so there is plenty of review material for the comprehensive exam.  Since I can put only a few problems from Chapters 11 and 12 on the Final I wanted to give you more practice on this material.

Here is the Answer Key for Homework 3.

Here is Homework 3.

You should download it, print it out and work the problems.  Bring the completed exam to class on Friday, November 14 and transfer your answers to the Scantron sheet provided in class.  This will be done in the first ten minutes of class.  If you will not be in class on Friday, you can turn in your completed homework to the main office in Ren 116 by Thursday at 4 pm.  Ask the secretary to put it in my mail box.  If you do this, I recommend you make a photocopy of the completed exam so you can check your answers against the posted key and you can use it to study over the weekend.  It's a good idea to always make photocopies of any homework you turn in because they can get misplaced or lost.

Here is the "Molecular Shapes" VSEPR handout that will be on the exam.  It is from material in Chapter 6, and there is a link to this handout on this website under Lecture Supplements, at the bottom of the page.  Scroll down.  You may need it to answer a few of the questions on the HW and on the exam.

Here is the Answer Key for Homework 2.

Mea Culpa!  I made a mistake on Question 6.  Everyone will get credit for it!  As written, the correct answer is 18, but I meant to make it about the 6th period!  That has more than 18, right?

Here is Homework 2.  You should download it, print it out and work the problems.  We are doing things differently this time than last.  You will record your answers online at the same website we used for the extra credit homework assignment.  Follow this link: http://edugen.wiley.com/edugen/class/cls74939/   and you will see another link called "Homework Assignment 2 worth 25 points."  Enter your answers there to receive credit.  All this is explained on the printout for HW 2, so read the instructions.  If you have any questions, email me at fletcher@uidaho.edu .     You may have to register to use the site if you did not do it for the Extra Credit Homework.  The answers for the HW2 must be entered *before class* on Friday, actually by 9 AM sharp.  Do not wait.  To be safe, do it by Thursday night.

Here is the Answer Key for HW 1.  Use this to study for Hour Exam 1.
