Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the main pathogen which
infects the human lung disease in Cystic Fibrosis. Antibiotics used to
kill the bacterium lose their effect as P.aeruginosa strains
develop which are resistant to antibiotics. Phage therapy might be a
better weapon. The goal of the phage therapy project which I am now
involved with is to develop a model system to investigate the features
that determine the success or failure of phage therapy. This summer I
isolated phages which are effective against P.aeruginosa from
environmental samples. So far 48 phage isolates have been obtained.
