Snake River fish species such as chinook salmon |

Cryostorage
In cooperation with the Nez Perce tribe, sperm samples from ESA-listed
populations of chinook salmon and steelhead from the Snake River
drainage are cryopreserved and stored in liquid nitrogen at the U of I.
At the temperature of liquid nitrogen, the sperm samples can be stored
for decades. This genetic material is maintained so that
populations can be restored if they should ever go extinct. |
