The Second Annual Conference of Northwest Herbaria          

The gold-back fern (Pentagramma triangularis (Kaulff.) Maxon ssp. triangularis). This attractive coastal fern is known in Idaho from only  four small populations.

Driving Directions and Maps of the University of Idaho Campus and Surrounding Area  

 As the majority of conference attendees will be traveling in from out of town, we have put together driving directions from key locations to the north, south, east, and west of Moscow. These directions are the most commonly traveled routes, and are most likely the easiest and shortest paths to Moscow.

We will supply you with maps of conference locations upon your arrival, but you may also want to print the following maps to help you initially navigate your way into town and to the Stillinger Herbarium.

Driving Directions to Moscow, Idaho, and the University of Idaho Stillinger Herbarium

  From Spokane, Washington:

• Take Hwy 195 South to Pullman
• Turn left at signs to Pullman, and then right on Davis Way (Hwy 270)
• Follow Davis Way until it intersects with N Grand Ave in downtown Pullman
• Turn right on N Grand Ave and get into the left lane
• Turn left at the second stop light, following signs to Moscow
• At Moscow the highway changes from 270 to Hwy 8
• Move to far right lane and turn right on Perimeter Drive (Best Western University Inn is located at this intersection)
• Turn left on 6th St and proceed to the first stop light
• Turn right on Deakin St
• Turn right on University Ave, proceed to top of hill
• Life Sciences South is located at the top of the hill, on the NW corner of University and Ash St
• The Stillinger Herbarium is located on the top floor of Life Sciences South, in room 454

From Boise, Idaho (Lewiston, Idaho):

• Take Hwy 55 North from Boise to New Meadows
• Turn right onto Hwy 95 and go North, toward Moscow (those coming from Lewiston will take Hwy 95 north directly out of Lewiston)
• At Moscow turn left at Sweet Avenue intersection (first stop light, currently disabled) in town coming from the south (Domino’s pizza is located at the intersection of 95 and Sweet Ave)
• Turn right at blinking yellow light onto Deakin Avenue
• Take the first left onto University Ave
• Life Sciences South is located at the top of the hill, on the NW corner of University and Ash St
• The Stillinger Herbarium is located on the top floor of Life Sciences South, in room 454

 From Pocatello, Idaho:

• Take Interstate 86 East to Interstate 15
• Take Interstate 15 North to Interstate 90
• Take Interstate 90 West to Coeur d'Alene
• At Coeur d'Alene take Exit #12
• Turn left on Hwy 95 and go South for 84 miles to Moscow
• At Moscow follow Hwy 95 through town
• In Moscow, turn right on 6th St
• Turn left on Deakin Avenue (first stoplight)
• Turn right on University Ave, proceed to top of hill
• Life Sciences South is located at the top of the hill, on the NW corner of University and Ash St

 From Coeur d'Alene, Idaho:

• Take Hwy 95 South for 84 miles to Moscow
• In Moscow follow Hwy 95 through town
• Turn right on 6th St
• Turn left on Deakin Avenue
• Turn right on University Ave, proceed to top of hill

 From Walla Walla, Idaho:

• Take US Hwy 12 East to Dusty
• At Dusty, turn right onto Hwy 26 and continue to Colfax
• At Colfax, turn right onto Main St (Hwy 195, heading south)
• Continue on Hwy 195 to Pullman
• Turn left at signs to Pullman, and then right on Davis Way (Hwy 270)
• Follow Davis Way until it intersects with N Grand Ave in downtown Pullman
• Turn right on N Grand Ave and get into the left lane
• Turn left at the second stop light, following signs to Moscow

• Take Interstate 82 North to Kennewick
• Take Hwy 395 North through Kennewick
• Cross bridge to Pasco
• Go through Pasco on Interstate 182
• Turn left onto Hwy 395 at the intersection of I 182, Hwy 12, and Hwy 395
• Take 395 to Connell
• Turn right on Hwy 260 at Connell and go to Washtucna
• At Washtucna, turn right on Hwy 26 and go to Colfax
• At Colfax, turn right onto Main St (Hwy 195)
• Continue on Hwy 195 to Pullman
• Turn left at signs to Pullman, and then right on Davis Way (Hwy 270)
• Follow Davis Way until it intersects with N grand Ave in downtown Pullman
• Turn right on N Grand Ave and get into the left lane

From Seattle/Tacoma, Washington:

• Travel east on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass to Vantage
• Cross the bridge over the Columbia River and take exit #137 to Hwy 26
• Take Hwy 26 to Colfax
• At Colfax, turn right onto Main St (Hwy 195, heading south)
• Continue on Hwy 195 to Pullman
• Turn left at signs to Pullman, and then right on Davis Way (Hwy 270)
• Follow Davis Way until it intersects with N Grand Ave in downtown Pullman
• Turn right on N Grand Ave and get into the left lane
• Turn left at the second stop light, following signs to Moscow
• At Moscow the highway changes from 270 to Hwy 8
• Move to far right lane and turn right on Perimeter Drive (Best Western University Inn is located at this intersection)
• Turn left on 6th St and proceed to the first stop light
• Turn right on Deakin St
• Turn right on University Ave, proceed to top of hill

From Missoula, Montana

• There are two options:
• you may take interstate 90 West from Missoula to Coeur d’Alene, at which point you should follow the above directions from Coeur d’Alene
• you may take Hwy 93 south from Missoula until it intersects with Hwy 12, then take Hwy 12 over Lolo Pass and all the way to Lewiston. At this point you will take Hwy 95 north and use the directions from Boise/Lewiston, as listed above.
• Of the two options, the first generally is a safer choice under poor weather conditions. However, the second “over the river and through the woods” option through Lolo Pass is much more scenic and is highly recommended (!) if the weather is passable. Both routes take approximately the same amount of time (5 hours).
