The Second
Annual Conference of Northwest Herbaria
Welcome! As
the official herbarium for the state of Idaho, the University of Idaho
Stillinger Herbarium cordially invites you to join us this spring for the second
annual Conference of Northwest Herbaria! We are inviting representatives from herbaria and conservation centers throughout the Northwest, including Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, to Moscow, Idaho, June 3-5, 2005, to attend the Conference of Northwest Herbaria. Please join us to discuss contemporary issues facing herbaria, take instruction on keying interesting taxa, and to learn about the unique coastal disjunct ecosystems of North Idaho.
The
Conference of Northwest Herbaria The Conference of Northwest Herbaria has been designed to address several issues facing herbaria and conservation centers today. Primarily, the conference offers an opportunity to increase the communication between these institutions on issues ranging from current taxonomic treatments to computerization of collections. In addition, the conference provides workshops led by recognized experts, designed to enhance the skill levels of field botanists. Lastly, this year the conference will provide an opportunity for botanists throughout the Northwest to experience first-hand the fascinating coastal disjunct ecosystems of North Idaho. Last year's first-ever Conference of Northwest Herbaria was truly a great success, with botanists attending from as far away as Yellowstone National Park, British Columbia, and Utah. We hope that you'll join us at this year's event so that it, too, will be equally as successful. This year is also the year that the University of Idaho Stillinger Herbarium will 'hand off the baton', so that other institutions have the opportunity to host this event in coming years. As with the Conferences we have held here, different institutions throughout the Northwest will now have the opportunity to feature their own collections and botanists, and to showcase their own unique pieces of the flora of the Northwest. We truly look forward to seeing you in June!
