Division receives SAS Enterprise Miner software grant to teach Data Mining course

The Division of Statistics at the University of Idaho will again offer a 1 credit course in Spring 2004 on Data Mining using SAS Enterprise Miner software. The SAS Institute has made this software available to the Division through a grant. This grant was obtained by the Division's former director, the late Dr. Al Manson. The course was developed and taught in Spring 2003 by Dr. Chris Williams.   Dr. Dean Johnson will teach the Data Mining course in Spring 2004.

Data mining is an increasingly important process used in Bioinformatics, Business, and other fields to discover patterns in large data sets.

SAS Enterprise Miner software makes these powerful methods available to a wide audience of users, as it is the first and only data mining solution that addresses the entire data mining process, all through an intuitive point-and-click graphical user interface.

More information about data mining and Enterprise Miner is available on the SAS Institute website at http://www.sas.com/products/miner/index.html.
